Toileting Posture

Have you ever seen a toddler pooping? Did you notice their posture?

When talking about toileting posture, the most important thing to remember is that your knees should be higher than your hips. Well, you can’t break into a full squat to take a poop, huh? Modern toilets require the use of a step stool under your feet for us to achieve this position. You can use a 6” step stool from a local hardware store, or you can buy the Squatty Potty. The Squatty Potty was specially designed to optimize toileting mechanics. By raising our feet, we change to anorectal angle, allowing our pelvic floor muscles (specifically the puborectalis) to relax. This results in less straining, decreased risk of prolapse AND more complete emptying.

On another note, we highly recommend watching the Squatty Potty commercial at squattypotty.com. You’ll thank us later.
